Pete the Pretender

A little less conversation...

And a lot more interaction. We think this is the most important page on the site and we welcome your questions, which we love to answer. If there's anything that you want to know, chances are that someone else wants to know it it too, so please don't hesitate to ask us.

Frequently Asked Questions

£30 (€40, $60 US) a year for as many mailboxes as you like (example: peter@myplace.com, paul@myplace.com, mary@myplace.com, thewholefamily@myplace.com).

You will also need to add the cost of registering your domain name, which varies according to its exension. For a .co.uk domain, this is just £5.00 a year.

Domain Name Registration
All UK domain names are subject to 2 yrs contract
.co.uk .org.uk .me.uk £10.00 (2 years)
.com .net .org .biz .info £10.00 (1 year)
.eu £12.00 (1 year)

There aren't any.

When we first set up our service, naturally we looked at our competitors charges.

Typically, the annual price of £30+ (for a restricted number of mailboxes) had doubled by the end of the checkout process once various charges for "extra features" had been added. Our extra features are included in the cost.

We don't ask you to choose between "Bronze", "Silver" and "Gold" packages -- we offer only one package, and it's pure platinum.

We won't be beaten on value or service!

We're glad you asked that one.

We've shopped around too, and we think we're the best because of all the things we don't do.  We don't charge a penny more than the prices we've displayed, we don't use premium-rate numbers for customer support, we don't make it difficult for you to contact us (ever been frustrated by 'support ticket' systems?) and we don't keep you waiting if you need any help.  We'll even call you back if you'd like us to, no matter which country you live in.

In short, we offer a personal, friendly and efficient service that's second to none.

Try us out: Put us through our paces for 30 days, and if you're not completely satisfied, we'll give you your money back.

Please note that we will not be able to refund the domain name registration charge, as this is what we pay the Registrar. The domain name will still remain yours, however, until it becomes due for renewal.

Not when you read the fine print. The fact is that we are required to pay the Registrar a fee for every name we register. Nobody can get a domain for free, so if it is being offered for free there is a catch.

There are several marketing ploys that use "free" registration as bait, but when you look closely at the fine print you will see that our prices are far cheaper than their "free" price. Offers we have seen require you to supply credit card information and be charged for an expensive renewal 1 year later. You can also be sure that you will not be offered the selection of free services such as those we include with every registration.

  • A unique, personalised email address in the form anythingyoulike@yourdomain. You can use your name, your company name, a nickname, or whatever else you like.
  • It's truly personal - there's no need to spend ages finding an address that hasn't been taken. Because you own the domain name, you can choose exactly what to put in front of it as an email address.
  • A POP3 mailbox, which will let you receive email sent to your address using software like Outlook Express.
  • Access to webmail. This lets you check your email from anywhere in the world - as long as you can find a computer with internet access and a web browser like Internet Explorer

Check out the Features link above for more information.

If it's a personal email address, it's unlikely that you'll need our help. However, many of our customers are looking to the future and the likelihood of setting up a web site at some stage.

With this in mind, we've prepared a guide which contains some useful tips:

PDF Version     Word Version

Email addresses are not case-sensitive, which means that any combination of lower- and upper-case letters will work to access the same email account. For example, Joe@Blogs.com is the same email address as joe@blogs.com.

You can pay using any of the following debit or credit cards:

  • Visa
  • Visa Electron
  • MasterCard
  • Solo
  • U.K. Maestro

Google Checkout is the secure payment processor for newemailadress.biz

We are big fans of Google Checkout because it's a fast, safe way to make purchases on the web. If you've already registered with Google Checkout then you'll know that you use it once and stop creating new accounts every time you want to buy.

You will be directed to the Google Checkout as part of the payment process. Before processing your order, a price approximation in your local currency will be displayed.

Then we jump up and down with joy, for websites are what we're all about! We design beautiful, stylish websites and we're dab hands at search engine optimisation.

If you don't want to use us that's fine (if puzzling, because we really are spectacularly good), we'll be happy to provide the details that you or your your web designer needs to upload your new site. Please note that you will need to upgrade your account (see below.)

Website Hosting

We provide provide ultra-reliable, feature-rich hosting services with unlimited web space for an additional £40 a year. Please contact us for details.

No problem. Just check to see if your choice of domain name is available, and if it is, you can pop it into your shopping basket and ignore the "add email hosting" option.

We'll send you annual reminders to let you know when re-registration of your domain is due, so you won't have to worry about it lapsing.

This one is out of our hands - Nominet, the Registrar for all UK domain names, only allows names to be registered/renewed for two years at a time.

Very little! It would make more sense if domain names were called 'website addresses', for in reality, that is what they are. Think of a domain name as the place where you can be reached, either by email or via the web. Our domain name, or web address, is www.newemailaddress.biz, and our email address is info@newemailaddress.biz.

Domain registration will allow you to take exclusive ownership of this name so that only you can use the name on the internet.

The email address is used to send and receive email. It contains your username, the @ symbol, and the domain name (example: john@doe.com).

An email account is the service normally provided by your Internet service provider (ISP) allowing you to send and receive email. Although you will be able to choose your username, the domain name will belong to your ISP
(example: johndoe@tiscali.com).

A mailbox is a place where email is stored on a server. Clients can download emails from an account (using an email program such as Outlook) or work with messages directly at the server (using Webmail).

Nothing! Unlike other email vendors, we don't charge for additional mailboxes - your can have as many as you like.

We recommend that you establish one account for each member of your organisation. If you've registered a domain name, firstname@yourgroup.org is a good standard for naming accounts. Be consistent in the way you name accounts so that your email addresses are logical and easy to remember.

We also recommend setting up a general email address for your group. It's handy to have a general email address to put in letterheads, on your web site, in publications, etc., rather than use the email of a particular person. The address info@yourgroup.org is the standard for general email addresses. You will be able to set this up as an "alias" that forwards to one or more people, so that you don't have to check a separate mail account to get general mail.

It can take anything from 1 to 24 hours, depending on how quickly  (warning! technobabble alert!)  the DNS servers take to propogate.  We'll let you know the moment that we've been able to set up your new email account.
